Arctic Fox - The Story So Far...

The boys from Arctic Fox, Banners and Fab, have been keen home brewers for over 10 years, ever increasing their knowledge of beers and the brewing process, accumulating more bottles that you can poke a stick at and perusing ebay for extra brewing equipment to add to their set-ups.

A few years ago, Banners, Fab and a couple of friends, got together and set-up a couple of all-grain brewing systems, one at Fab's place and one at Banners' place. There was a bit of friendly rivalry between both set-ups to see who could brew the best beers.

When it was decided that they would start their own business, the two systems were merged into one at Banners' place, where, every weekend, the smell of brewing filled the air as they experimented with different brews.

Banners, Fab, and their friends chose the brewery name, Arctic Fox, from a list of about 120 possible names that were thought up over a few beers. The name doesn't really have any Australian links, but was the name that stood out from the other names on the list.

The fox head design with the ears sticking up above the label was initially suggested by Fab, and a friend, Devon, drew the fox head. The brewhouse, fermenters, cooling system, grain mill and most of the other equipment was designed by Fab.

From the time it was decided to start a brewery, to having it ready to start brewing, was about three years.

The first year of operations for Arctic Fox has been quite a journey. Fab and Banners have gone from brewing 25 litre batches of beer in the shed, to brewing 900 litre batches at the brewery. It's been a steep learning curve and they couldn't have done it without the help from family and friends.

Fab and Banners are looking forward to bringing you more great Arctic Fox beer in 2010 and hope to see you at events such as the Fed Square Microbrewers' Showcase, the Beer & Brewer Expo, the Royal Melbourne Show, and the regular farmers markets.
